Support the digitization of Corato’s archives
In June 2026, the regional director of the state archives suggested presenting a pilot project to his management in Rome which entails the digitisation of more than 2000 Civil State registers that concern 11 towns in the entire Alta Murgia area and adjacent coastal towns in Puglia. These registers cover the crucial migration years from 1911 to 1938 and are all kept at the State Archive Trani branch. Such a task can only be done professionally, but at the same time, it’s important that people from all the concerned places have the opportunity to participate in the digitisation as volunteers. This volunteer action begun by the Atelier Généalogique in October 2024, in association with our university partners in Bari, will create the desired momentum for ensuring access to the archives with the objective of discovering personal origins and enabling university research on migration from 1900 onwards.
